Role Summary:

To be responsible for maintenance of existing back-end projects and development of the back-end for new features and / or products, in line with the product owner’s requirements.

ThinkTRIBE provides application monitoring and load testing services with our own proprietary software. The projects for this role revolve around our user journey engine. Our engine software is responsible for:

  • Providing a scripting interface to other internal teams
  • Managing an execution schedule
  • Provisioning resource pools
  • Executing virtual user journey scripts
  • Collecting and shipping data


Home based or hybrid between home and office in Canterbury


  • £30,000 – 37,000 (dependant on experience)


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Adhering to agile development methodologies.
  • Writing code (predominantly python) as a pair or individually.
  • Architectural design of solutions.
  • Documenting processes / keeping documentation up to date.
  • Writing unit tests and integration tests; working with QA to test implementations on staging.
  • Preparing our applications for deployment.
  • DB schema design and orchestration with an ORM.
  • Working with sysadmins to write infrastructure as code
  • Code reviewing the work of peers and challenging implementation approaches.
  • Seeking to continuously improve as a developer and keep apprised of the latest technology changes.
  • Identifying and implementing improvements in our processes or developer / devops tools.
  • Work closely with the Product Owner to clarify product requirements.
  • Participating in educational and certification opportunities.
  • Support learning of Graduate and Junior Developers (if any in post).
  • Contribute ideas and communicate regularly with peers.
  • Undertake any other duties commensurate with the level of the post as may reasonably be required

Skills and Experience

Essential Criteria:

  • STEM BSc, 2:1 or higher
  • Proficiency in Python
  • 3+ years experience as a software developer
  • Passion for the field and for learning more
  • Excellent communication skills

Desirable Criteria:

  • MSc in Computer Science or PhD in STEM field
  • General knowledge of front-end technology (working on front-ends is generally not required, but the knowledge would be useful for the role)
  • Experience with the following languages / technologies: java, javascript, node, groovy, salt, reclass, git, JIRA, SQL, elasticsearch, AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, pyramid, selenium, appium, linux, docker
  • Experience mentoring junior developers
  • Experience working kanban
