How to manage performance
With SAP Hybris 6.7 support reaching end of life in a few months’ time, businesses are already preparing for the shift to Cloud Commerce Version 2 (CCV2). The transition makes sense: as new digital trends like voice search, social commerce and personalisation continue to shape digital commerce, every online storefront will want the flexibility to implement new features as promptly as possible to optimise the user experience (UE).
It’s important to meticulously plan your migration to CCV2, though. Environment calibration is essential to ensure CCV2 will match, or even outperform, the legacy platform. We recommend you test early and test often. Testing will help resolve scalability issues which can result in performance degradation, as well as server issues that could lead to a costly web crash. All these adverse outcomes are risky in terms of brand reputation – and are completely avoidable with the right preparation.
Start thinking about performance early on
In our experience, this is something that’s all-too-often left to the last minute, usually to the detriment of the migration. By ensuring performance is factored in as early as possible in the process, you can avoid the problem of finding a user-impacting issue close to go-live date and take control of the project timeline.
Set your performance targets
Begin by benchmarking from your old platform. Be clear about the features you want your new platform to replicate. Give some careful thought to how many customers you want to support simultaneously on your site – whether browsing, adding to the cart or checking out.
Consider your user journeys
What scenarios will be tested? Bear in mind that customers don’t all behave the same and make allowances for these differences. Factor in ‘think time’ and the number of pages browsed, together with devices used.
How high are you aiming?
When planning for a platform that will support your commerce activities over the next few years, consider how your business might evolve and expand during that time. Define your expectations for growth, both in terms of normal periods of operation and peak events, such as Black Friday.
Test, test and test some more
But make sure you’re basing your testing protocols on realistic metrics. Only by testing a site in a way that replicates a real user can you return the most realistic results, allowing you to perform root cause analysis and fix any problems.
